1950s Martin 3M Mahogany Ukulele Style 3 Uke
1950s Martin 3M Mahogany Ukulele Style 3 Uke
This is the transitional version of the Style 3 mahogany ukulele Martin made in the early 1950s. Its lovely 7-ply edge and 10-ply rosette black and white binding are all in wonderful shape, as is the finish, which has darkened to a lovely gold. This 3M still features its cool center stripe on the fingerboard with dot style fret markers and the slightly longer headstock with a small Martin decal! Martin had increased its nut width to 1 7/8 around this time, making modern playing styles much easier.
Overall length: 21 in. (53.3 cm.)
Width: 6 3/8 in. (16.2 cm.)
Depth: 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.)
Scale length: 13 1/2 in. (343 mm.)
Nut Width: 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.)
This is a very well preserved example of the rare top-of-the line (for its time) mahogany 3M ukulele. While not entirely free of evidence of playtime, it is very clean overall. With a precision setup in place, it plays as excellently as it looks! These transitional models were not manufactured often by this point in Martin's distinguished history and rarely come up for sale. A vintage purple lined case is included.
