1961 Vega / Martin VOX Ultra Vegavox De-Luxe V Plectrum Banjo Jazz Deluxe
1961 Vega / Martin VOX Ultra Vegavox De-Luxe V Plectrum Banjo Jazz Deluxe
It’s well known that the Vega VOX plectrum banjo is the king of the hill in the Trad. Jazz and Dixieland worlds. This is in large part due to Banjo virtuoso Eddie Peabody’s legacy. In fact he was directly involved in its development. High end deluxe versions of the Vega Vox banjo seldom come up for sale and are highly desirable.
The body of this lovely banjo has the serial number 101183 (circa 1961) printed on a yellow Boston, Massachusetts Vega label identifying it as a VOX 5. Its neck features extensive heel carving, a fancy headstock overlay with a model V truss rod cover, high quality Planet “Five Star” tuners, and a Martin logo. The resonator is labeled “Ultra Vegavox De-Luxe V“. It’s a gaudy masterpiece and is one of the nicest sounding and best playing plectrum banjos we’ve ever played!

This banjo is in nice condition and was clearly well loved and played extensively for many years! The frets are original and some wear is present. It also has some wear to the gold plating at contact points. A well used but still great sounding head is installed on the banjo.
The Vegavox is set up well, it’s easy to play, and sounds great all the way up its long 27” plectrum scale neck. It comes in a very sturdy Superior brand professional hard shell case, some adjustment wrenches, and a small pouch of extra jewels which could be used to replace the non-clear red and pink jewels that have been installed.
Wonderful sounding and great looking Vox plectrum Jazz banjos seldomly, if ever come up for sale. Don't miss out on this jewel studded super fancy gem!
